Chaga

The Chaga mushroom is a powerful medicinal mushroom. Its rough exterior and complex makeup make it one of the most potent mushrooms available today. Chaga mushroom is full of essential vitamins, antioxidants, minerals and phytonutrients. It has been used to treat tuberculosis for many years, as well as poor circulation, cancer and other diseases.

The chaga is a mushroom that grows only on birch in northern climates. It has been used for centuries by indigenous peoples as a remedy for various illnesses. According to Canada’s Woodland Cree peoples, they believe that chaga came into existence when an imaginary entity mistook some of the mushroom for meat, and accidentally threw it at a birch-tree for mankind’s benefit.

Chaga, which contains betulinic acid, has been shown to have antiviral properties and to increase white blood cell production. Despite the fact that more research needs to be done on chaga's effectiveness as a health remedy, it could become a key part of natural healthcare for many conditions.

Chaga can also be used to make a tincture or tea. To make the tincture you can simmer chopped pieces of chaga in water for four hours, then strain and remove any sediments. As well as being added as tea or tincture, chaga can also be ground into powder for smoothies and other recipes; simply dry pieces at low temperature in an oven before using a food processor to process them into fine dust for use in smoothies and other recipes.

Heat water between 140-160 degrees Fahrenheit to brew Chaga Tea in a teapot. Be mindful not to boil it as this could permanently stain its interior surface; chunks of Chaga must first be broken up into 1-inch cubes prior to breaking them up with a fork; alternatively use a tea bag instead for faster brewing time and steep for 3-6 minutes for an uplifting and mild cup of chai; drink hot or cold as per your preference and try Chaga throughout your day for energy and boost and strengthening immune systems!

Reishi

Reishi mushroom's longevity-increasing abilities have been known for a long time. Reishi is one of the most powerful adaptogens you can consume; its longevity-boosting benefits can help promote immune system balance while simultaneously acting as an antiviral, antifungal and antibacterial remedy to combat infection and restore balance within our systems. Reishi acts as a stress reliever and can calm both the mind, and body.

Reishi can also be consumed as tea or an ingredient in foods to reap its mood-boosting and anti-inflammatory benefits. You can add Reishi to hot or chilled meals like soups, salads and baked products. Its earthy flavor pairs well with root vegetable dishes for a warming earthy boost.

You can create a reishi extract if you want to get a concentrated dose. Fill a pint sized or quart sized glass jar half full with chopped or ground mushroom and pour in high proof alcohol like vodka or whisky before sealing and storing in a dark, cool place for 4 to 6 weeks. Shake frequently to extract the benefits. Enjoy your extract plain or add it to any hot or chilled beverage!

Reishi Powder is available as capsules or in tea bags. These are easier to take and more portable than dried shiitake mushrooms.

Organic varieties are always the best choice for optimal Reishi nutrition. Look for Reishi with deep, reddish hues and dry pieces when purchasing for medicinal purposes. Avoid anything that is slimy.

Reishi can be used for a wide range of recipes. To avoid any negative side effects, it is best to consume it slowly at first. Some people report feeling a mood-lifting effect within 30-60 minutes of taking Reishi. Others report improved sleep and reduced stress as a result.
